According to data collected by Mastercard’s Global Destination Cities Index, the top three cities around the world with the most visitors in 2016 were Bangkok, Thailand; London, England; and Paris, France. These same three cities were named the world’s most popular travel destinations in 2015, though London took the top spot that year, edging out Bangkok by about 580,000 visitors. Experts cite the rising interest in Bangkok as a response to its affordability, culinary scene, and culture.

Though only time will tell which cities top 2017’s list of most popular travel destinations, Forbes recently published a list of international locales garnering major interest from travelers around the world. The experts’ list of picks included Ireland, Iceland, Canada, and New Zealand, as well as Cuba, which recently began adding commercial flights for the first time in half a century.
